ACCT - ACCELERATED COLLEGE AND CAREER TRANSITION
What is ACCT and how does it work?
ACCT (Accelerated College and Career Transition) is an independent study program that provides students with a unique opportunity to earn a high school diploma. Students are assigned courses and coursework based on transcript evaluation and demonstrated competencies. Students are responsible for meeting with teachers and completing required course work. Students complete the majority of their coursework independently and have access to the ACCT study centers when they need assistance. Work is submitted as scheduled by the teacher. Students must make adequate academic progress to remain in the program.

PROGRAM BENEFITS
- ACCT study centers operate on a client centered basis with individualized educational and career technical training plans.
- The ACCT program offers competency and standards based curriculum and courses that meet the A-
G requirements. - The mode of instruction in ACCT is independent study. Independent study is a voluntary alternative to regular classroom instruction and is consistent with the school district’s curriculum and course of study.
- Independent study provides flexible scheduling which allows students to acquire employability skills, or to seek or maintain employment, or care for children or family members while earning a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Teachers are responsible for assuring that competencies in the independent study course work are mastered and that the highest level of educational quality is maintained.
- Students must meet all district and state requirements for graduation.
- Short-
term career training is also available to all ACCT students. - ACCT students successfully transition to college, the military, and employment.
ACCT is a dropout recovery program administered by the Division of Adult and Career Education (DACE) of LAUSD. ACCT students are 16-24 year olds who are deficient in credits or who have dropped out of high school. ACCT provides these students with educational opportunities leading to a high school diploma or equivalency and career technical education training program.
We have three options available for all students. Options one and two will result in the student earning a high school diploma. Option three will result in the student earning a high school equivalency certificate from the state of California.
Option 1 – Students must have 170 credits (34 specific courses)

Mathematics - 25 credits – Science
- 30 credits -
Social Studies - 10 credits – Fine Arts/ Foreign Language/Career Tech Education
- 5 credits -
Personal and Career Development Elective - 5 credits -
Any Computer Literacy Course - 35 credits – General Electives
Option 2 – High School Equivalency Test* (HiSET) plus 50 credits
- English 4 (or higher level)
- Expository Composition
- One year of Algebra or higher
- Health
- US History 1 & 2
- US Government
- Personal Career and Development Elective
- Any Computer Literacy course
- Take and pass the high school equivalency test (HiSET)
Option 3 – High School Equivalency Test
- Take and pass all five sections of the high school equivalency test (HiSET). You will receive a high school equivalency certificate from the state of California.
*Students must:
- be at least 17
- behind in credits
- 60 days removed from their home school & their senior year has begun in order to qualify to take the HiSET
- 18 year olds can test without any conditions.
Options 1 and 2 will result in the student earning a high school diploma. A motivated student can complete option 2 in a year or less. Upon completion of any of the three options the student may then enroll in community college, job training, or join the military. The student may also seek gainful employment.
ENROLLMENT
Enrolment in the ACCT program is completed at individual study centers. Students interested in the program should contact the study center closest to them for specific details about testing and orientation meetings. Enrollment is taken throughout the year, however, students are enrolled based on available space. The program operates on a year round schedule.
